Camunda helps Mutualité Sociale Agricole rethink its approach to process management

Press Release

December 9, 2024

Mutualité Sociale Agricole’s IT partner iMSA uses Camunda to optimize management processes and deploy a new workflow system.

Paris, France Camunda, the leader in process orchestration, successfully meets Mutualité Sociale Agricole’s needs by enabling it to modernize its approach to process management and replacing its old workflow engine, which no longer fulfills the organization’s needs.

Mutualité Sociale Agricole (MSA) provides social security cover for all France’s farmers, agricultural workers, and their dependents. With 26.9 billion euros in benefits paid to 5.3 million recipients, it’s the country’s second largest social security “regime.”

To further improve its management processes and migrate to a next-generation IT architecture (Kubernetes, cloud, etc.), MSA wanted to replace its old workflow engine with a versatile solution capable of handling a range of use cases.

These, for example, include the automation of employee workflows and document management. At present, iMSA technical teams are focusing their efforts on migrating 1,200 workflow procedures to Camunda and 35 workflow instances or systems to a centralized platform. Overall, there are hundreds of possible use cases across all of the core MSA activities (payment of family, health, and retirement benefits, as well as collection of contributions). To ensure an effective response when meeting MSA’s expectations, the project is being managed with an agile approach by the iMSA and Camunda teams.

According to Jean-Christophe Deffontaines, IT Architect at iMSA, “The workflow is an essential tool for the operation of MSA branches with a very strong impact on their organization. Using modeled work procedures, it allows tasks to be linked together and managed by MSA agents. iMSA has chosen Camunda to replace its workflow engine. In the longer term, this project also constitutes a launch pad for major developments in the use of the MSA workflow for branch agents.”

“We are pleased to support Mutualité Sociale Agricole in orchestrating its business processes,” says Stéphane Faivre-Duboz, Sales Director at Camunda. “The alliance between iMSA and Camunda highlights our ability to work on strategic projects in France. Our goal is to enable them to take advantage of automation to better manage their operations, while providing the best level of service to members.”
