I’m proud to share that Camunda has been named a Visionary in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies (BOAT).[1]
This is the inaugural Magic Quadrant for BOAT, and in my view, its timing could not be better. Enterprises everywhere are racing to apply AI agents to real business problems. But the reality is sobering. Gartner predicts that “over 40% of agentic AI projects will be canceled by the end of 2027, due to escalating costs, unclear business value or inadequate risk controls.”
That mirrors what we see in the market: AI agents can be powerful, but without orchestration as part of an end-to-end process, they fail to deliver business value at scale. They lack coordination, accountability, and reliability.
Why BOAT matters now
We believe BOAT platforms exist for exactly this reason. They enable enterprises to automate and orchestrate end-to-end business processes, and, as Gartner states in “Quick Answer: Beyond RPA, BPA and Low Code — The Future Is BOAT”, they are “emerging as a critical conduit for the orchestration of AI agents within enterprise automation.”
We think this is where Camunda stands apart. Process orchestration is the heart of what we do, and orchestration is what makes AI agents enterprise-grade. AI agents that are ready for enterprise use require:
- Resilient orchestration that handles long-running work reliably, at scale, without losing state
- Composable integration that connects people, systems, and agents across end-to-end processes
- Flexibility and reusability so teams can adjust agent autonomy to fit the task

Strength in AI agent development and orchestration
Camunda’s ability to develop and orchestrate AI agents in real business processes is, I believe, a key reason Gartner named us a Visionary in the BOAT Magic Quadrant.

As agentic AI becomes part of how we automate business processes, one thing doesn’t change: the need for human oversight. Not every process can—or should—run without people in the loop.
