REWE digital relies on Camunda to orchestrate business-critical processes

Berlin, August 26, 2026. Camunda, the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, today announced that REWE digital, the technology subsidiary of REWE Group, is using Camunda as its central platform to orchestrate dynamic business processes across merchandise management and logistics.

REWE digital relies on Camunda to manage orders, invoices, and logistics processes with suppliers and partners reliably, scalably, and transparently. Key factors in the decision included the flexible orchestration solution, which can be adapted even during ongoing operations, and the open, modular architecture, which integrates seamlessly with the existing microservices landscape and scales with process volume. Also decisive was a unified, compliance-ready, and auditable orchestration layer, essential given that REWE digital, as part of the critical infrastructure, is subject to strict legal requirements. The platform's enterprise maturity was another deciding factor: open source solutions offer a good starting point, but for REWE digital's business-critical infrastructure, professional support is indispensable, the kind provided by Camunda's Enterprise Success Plan.

With Camunda, process models serve simultaneously as documentation and as directly executable artifacts, allowing development teams and business departments to work much more closely together. Dynamic processes can be adapted quickly without jeopardizing stability in production.

Frank Rothmann, senior product owner for workload automation at REWE digital, said: “Camunda gives us the ability to model complex, dynamic processes so that they are understandable and traceable for everyone involved, from IT to the business side. BPMN modeling creates a common language between technology and business, which is critical in a company of our size. At the same time, Camunda delivers the stability, scalability, and enterprise support we need as a company operating critical infrastructure.”

Stéphane Faivre-Duboz, vice president sales EMEA at Camunda, added: “We are proud to support REWE digital on its journey toward becoming a process-driven organization. Our platform makes it possible to orchestrate complex, distributed processes across microservices and establish full transparency into every process state. This lays the foundation for safely integrating AI agents into business-critical operations in the future, with the governance, auditability, and human oversight needed to move AI from pilot to production.”

Outlook: scaling and regulatory-compliant AI use

As a next step, REWE digital plans to extend the orchestration platform to additional business areas, while also preparing for regulatory-compliant AI use across the process chain. As a KRITIS company (an operator of critical infrastructure under German law), REWE digital relies on Camunda's LLM-agnostic architecture, with native observability, complete audit trails, and embedded governance mechanisms.
