CamundaCon 2021: Scaling Workflow Automation for Peak Tax Season

A business process automation platform built on Camunda provides customer and internal workflows as a service across Intuit's ecosystem. The platform started with one workflow; a year later, it supports 20+ different business workflows, including the process for assisted tax filing in Intuit's premium product, TurboTax Live. The journey started with supporting 20,000 workflow executions per day, up to a peak of around 1 million executions per day, supporting the most critical period of the year without any downtime (100% availability), at scale (400+ TPS), with high performance (TP99 < 300ms).

CamundaCon 2020: Workflow Automation for SMBs Using Camunda

The QuickBooks Advanced automation team had a big challenge to solve: How to build a workflow automation platform for mid market customers. Not only would this be the automation platform for mid market customers, it would also be part of multiple Intuit products used by customers. After analyzing multiple options, Camunda was the right choice. With their new architectural approach, Intuit is planning to support multiple products and handle a scale of millions of processes.
