Spring Boot Starter for the External Task Client
We are happy to announce that Camunda Platform Runtime 7.15 will provide a Spring Boot Starter for the External Task Client. It allows you to implement Service Tasks decoupled from the Process Engine using Spring Boot. In seconds, you can build an executable JAR that can run almost anywhere. In 2018, Camunda released the first version of the External Task Client. Since then, our community member Oliver Steinhauer developed a Starter that combines the External Task Client with Spring Boot. With the 7.15 release, we will add the former Community Extension to the official Camunda Stack and will maintain it as part of future product releases. Let’s look at the following example to get a better understanding of the Spring…

Six Tips for building a global Meetup Organizers Program
Building and nurturing a community of users is vital to any tech organization’s success. If you want to get the word out about your product and build meaningful relationships with your user community, you’ll want to empower your community contributors to lead successful meetup groups. In this blog post, I’ll share some of the learnings from building up a support program for our global Camunda meetup organizers over the past three years. I’m the Community Manager at Camunda and a people connector at heart. One of my greatest passions is building meaningful relationships that serve global communities and empower individuals. I strongly believe that exchanging ideas and learning about the experiences of others can be a great source of knowledge…
Contributing to the Camunda Modeler and getting started with BPMN.io
A report from a true fan. Watching sports is a little like using Open Source Software. I know that is a bit of a stretch, but if you keep reading you will see that both need contribution from “hobby leagues”. By watching your favorite sports team you (maybe unintentionally) tell sports clubs and TV stations that you are interested in their offerings. Maybe at one point you decide to play the sport yourself. By starting to play, you begin contributing to that community. You may not ever be a professional athlete, but overall you start to influence the sport you’re participating in at a small level. I am a big user of bpmn.io. I guess if you work at Camunda…

The DevRel Path to Success: Awareness, Enablement, Engagement
I’ve had dozens of conversations over the last year alone with people who are wondering how to split up the work within a Developer Relations team. Whether you’re trying to figure out what type of a Developer Relations professional to hire (someone with a developer background? someone who has experience running a community forum? someone who thrives when faced with the creative challenge of how to make people aware of your new product?) or trying to decide which of your team members is responsible for which tasks (as I’m doing at Camunda right now!), having a clear framework with which to divide the responsibilities and focus our work is important. In a previous blogpost, I mentioned that supporting your company’s…

Camunda Closes $100 Million Series B Funding Round to Automate Any Process, Anywhere
I am excited to share that we just completed a €82 million (approximately $100 million) funding round led by Insight Partners. The round also included our existing investor Highland Europe from the Series A. You can find the official press release here. In this blog post I want to comment on this funding round in my own words and briefly walk you through the story of Camunda. But first things first: Who is Camunda and what do we do? Who is Camunda and what do we do? Camunda provides process automation software that is used by our customers, such as Allianz, ING, Vodafone, or Atlassian, to automate processes they need tailor-made for their business. In essence, Camunda provides software to build software. For example…

Communication Between Loosely Coupled Microservices
In our recent webinar titled “Communication Between Loosely Coupled Microservices” we got a lot of great questions and because of the limited time some were left unanswered. As community questions are really important to me I want to follow my tradition to answer remaining questions in a blog post (as I have for example also done roughly a year ago in “Webinar FAQ for Monitoring & Orchestrating Your Microservices Landscape using Workflow Automation”). What Was The Webinar About? You can find the slides (here) and recording (here) online. The webinar covered different styles of communication. This was explained by looking at how ordering food works: The communication style is very different from styles of collaboration of services, which was also discussed: The following table gives an…

Running a Camunda Meetup Group: Vienna
What do you think of when you hear about Vienna? Probably beautiful buildings, culture, opera, classical music and many more cultural highlights. Something like that, right? But a few years ago, in 2016, something else came to life as well. On September 23, 2016, the Camunda meetup group in Vienna was created. More than four-and-a-half years have passed since then and we would like to share some of our experiences and highlights of organizing a Camunda meetup community. What is the Camunda Meetup Group Vienna? Since Martin Schimak founded the meetup in 2016, it has grown into one of the largest Camunda meetups in the world. With 352 members, the Vienna meeting competes with two much larger countries, Brazil and…
