Introducing Embedded Forms Generator: A Camunda Modeler Plugin for Easier Embedded Form Building

Tl;dr We just released a new Camunda Modeler plugin that makes it possible to preview task forms and to automatically generate HTML for embedded task forms–all without leaving the Camunda Modeler. The plugin makes it much faster and easier to do form prototyping at the beginning of a project and then get up and running with an embedded task form. While some workflow automation use cases can be solved with “straight-through processing”–that is, a process where all tasks are completed by software systems and with no manual intervention–we human beings still have an important role to play in many scenarios. For reasons ranging from regulatory compliance to quality assurance, BPMN’s user task is frequently a part of process models. And…

Custom Tasklist examples

Camunda’s flexible architecture allows users to combine the workflow engine with custom user interfaces. The Camunda BPM Platform itself comes with a default Tasklist. But what happens if we don’t like the approach or the technology used behind the default Camunda Tasklist? How can we build our own Tasklist that leverages Front-End frameworks and technologies that we have chosen as a user rather than Camunda? Throughout this blogpost I will showcase how different Front-End frameworks can be used together with Camunda BPM to build a custom Tasklist. The Showcase Imagine we want to implement a very simple workflow like the following one: Implementing the automated tasks of this workflow is pretty straightforward using the Camunda workflow engine.Today let’s have a…

Batch Operations with Camunda 7.6

Camunda 7.6 got released few weeks ago and it comes with many new exciting features. One of them is the extended Batch Operation feature and within this post I am gonna tell you what you can do with it and why it is so useful. Before I outline some really good use cases for Batch Operations let’s have a look what the concept actually means. Batch In general, batch processing is a concept in which a number of jobs is executed without manual intervention. Therefore, in Camunda the Batch operation concept can be used to offload workload from the current execution to the background. This means that with the help of this concept operators are able to perform administrative operations…

ECM and Camunda – Using CMIS

In my recent blogpost I discussed an example on how to integrate Camunda with modern ECM SaaS providers like Box. As many companies are still using traditional ECM and DMS solutions within this blogpost I will focus on CMIS. The open CMIS standard stands for Content Management Interoperability Services and allows to integrate with a number of different DMS solutions. Most popular DMS solutions come with an API that is based on the CMIS standard as one can see in this list of CMIS implementations. CMIS is an abstraction layer that uses web services and extends SOAP by defining a specific domain model and bindings. Showcase Similar to my previous blogpost I reused the typical Invoice Showcase that is shipped…

ECM and Camunda – Integrating Box.com with Camunda

Many core workflows in organizations involve some kind of document management. Organizations usually handle document management with the help of DMS or ECM software solutions. The term Enterprise Content Management (ECM) was first introduced in 2000 by the AIIM International. In today’s definition ECM covers (web) content, document, records, workflow and digital asset management as well as search, collaboration, capture and scanning. Furthermore, often document management systems (DMS) are viewed to be a component of ECM. Originally ECM applications were implemented as traditional software applications which were installed on-premise. With the growth of cloud computing and SaaS solutions also the ECM market changed drastically during the last years. Many traditional ECM applications added SaaS technology to their portfolio, but at…

KPI Monitoring with Camunda

Key performance indicators (KPIs) are the most important metric for analyzing statistical data of business processes: KPIs can not only be used to highlight efficiencies and inefficiencies in business processes, but they can help to subsequently improve specific activities in order to speed up process execution. Choosing the right KPIs and displaying the data in a simple and intuitive way is key for process improvement. One of the most common requirements for KPI monitoring is about time-sensitive business processes. The question that you might ask is ‘How can we monitor which business processes or specific steps were completed in time and which did not?’ Within this blog entry I will outline how one can make use of Camunda’s open architecture…
