Properties Panel Improvements
Variables
We’ve added a new tab to the properties panel that lists all the variables for the currently selected process or subprocess. These process variables will be detected based on the content of the diagram, for example form field IDs or output parameter names.
Input and Output Parameters
As part of our ongoing effort to simplify editing properties we’ve improved the Input/Output tab. Parameters are now listed as collapsible items for a better overview with the option to show more details when needed. More explicit labels help to understand what you have to enter to map input or output parameters.
Defining the value of input and output parameters via expressions can be difficult, since it requires you to remember the existing process variable’s exact names. Now when you’re typing expressions, you’ll be assisted with suggestions of detected process variables.
Working with Templates
Templates are an easy way to add predefined properties to your elements, especially if you want to apply these properties to more than one element. To further simplify working with templates, we’ve added a dedicated dialog that makes finding the right template even easier. As someone who creates templates, you can now add a description with more information about a template.
Once you’ve applied a template, you’ll see a new tab that will display information about the template and the properties that were defined in it. You can still edit an element’s name and Id after you’ve applied a template.
When you need to define properties that are not part of the template, you can use the Unlink feature. This will keep all properties of the template but will remove the link to the template and bring back all tabs of the properties panel. If you want to remove all properties and continue with a blank element, then you can Remove the template completely.
If a template is missing after it was applied to an element, it will be indicated in the properties panel. You can then add the template or remove it from the element.
Templates are a very flexible feature with many configuration options. Check out the documentation to learn more.
Further Improvements
In addition to these exciting features, this release also contains couple of minor improvements:
- In DMN editor:
- We improved recognition of input/output columns by adding placeholder labels
- We fixed some undo/redo related bugs
- We fixed some copy/paste related bugs
- In BPMN editor:
- We fixed a bug preventing incoming message flows to point at boundary message events
