What to Expect
Camunda Cloud 1.2.0-alpha2 is the second alpha release for our next stable minor release in October. The alpha includes bug fixes, and the preparations for the major features of the next 1.2.0 release.
Zeebe 1.2.0-alpha2 is the first release which enables followers to process replicated log entries and build up a local state of the system. Before this, the state was only built on the leaders and in a fail-over situation the follower was required to replay the entries of the logstream to build up the state. By allowing followers to build up the state already during the replication, a fail-over can be resolved faster as the new elected leader can immediately pick-up and continue the work with the already present state.
Other new features in Zeebe 1.2.0-alpha2 include the ability to configure a custom partition layout in the cluster. With Zeebe 1.1 and previous versions, the partition layout was fixed as described in the documentation. Zeebe 1.2 adds configuration options to specify which broker should host which partitions and the priority in which each broker should try to become leader for this partition. For example, this feature is useful if you plan to run Zeebe distributed over multiple data centers where you want to ensure that partitions and leadership are distributed evenly, and that the replication consensus always includes at least two data centers.
To improve the modeling experience in Camunda Cloud Console, we added a linting feature to the diagram editor. It is based on the bpmnlint project and adds validation of the BPMN model to the Console. If a user models a diagram which is not executable by the workflow engine, linting errors will be shown inside the modeler to guide users in how to fix the model. This improves the user experience of designing executable diagrams and the onboarding experience of new users.
Now, a new homepage is available in Camunda Cloud Console, which lets you easily navigate to the different services and provides an entrypoint to the documentation.
Lastly, we have released Camunda Optimize 3.6.0-alpha2, and it’s available via our alpha channel in Camunda Cloud. Feel free to try it out and give feedback to our teams about the Optimize beta. As a next step, we will further harden Optimize to ensure it’s generally available in the short term.
How to Get It
You can make use of Zeebe, Operate and Tasklist 1.2.0-alpha2 directly in Camunda Cloud by selecting the alpha channel when creating a new cluster. For more information visit the Camunda Cloud docs.
The releases for Zeebe Engine, Operate, and Tasklist have also been published on GitHub for your access. As this is an alpha release, we don’t offer updates from other versions or to later versions of the software.
